You are invited to join a group of intrepid walkers who are hiking the Raad Ny Foillan – the Route of the Gull – in stages over the next fourteen months, one leg per month.
Through the summer we will be walking successive stages of the Raad Ny Foillan, generally on the last Wednesday evening of each month. From October, as the evenings grow shorter, we will commence the Sunday walks on the last Sunday of the month (save for December, planned for the second Sunday).
Starting on Wednesday 22 June at 5.00pm, the first stage took place from Eary Cushlin to Niarbyl, for what has now become the traditional Diana Summer walk, an easy four miler taking in some of the island’s most magnificent sights. It finished with supper (and an auction!) at Niarbyl Café at 7:30pm. Much fun, and the event raised £2,000 for Hospice at Home.
On Wednesday 27 July we will walk the second leg, Niarbyl to Peel, followed by supper at the Creek. The “off” will be 5pm, from Niarbyl Cafe.
Where possible, we hope to end all legs with a “beer and a bite” in a nearby pub.
The full programme is on the Diana Hospice at Home website, here. Evening walks will start again in April 2017 with the final stretch to complete the challenge, Port Erin back to the Niarbyl Café, scheduled for July 2017.
The Challenge is being organised with the twin aims of raising money for the Diana Hospice at Home charity, whilst having fun undertaking a picturesque but physically challenging walk around the Isle of Man.
Registration for the Challenge is a minimum £10 pp. Plus, each leg will be £10 pp to participate. Children and dogs are welcome to join the Challenge, and walk for free. Non-walking friends are welcome to join the meal at the end (and if they donate £10pp to Diana, per event, that would be appreciated) – and hopefully assist with transport – for a car scheme will be organised, pairing cars, start and finish.
Companies may wish to join the Challenge as motivational team building and enter corporate sponsored teams (of 1 to 5 walkers), with suggested donation of £500 per team or £100 per team-member.
Certificates will be awarded to all individual competitors who successfully complete the entire Walk the Raad Ny Foillan Challenge with Diana, as well as to all corporate teams where at least 3 out of 5 complete each leg. (And don’t worry if you have to miss a leg – as long as you go back and fit it in later during the Challenge period, thats fine! You’ll still get your Certificate.)
